Forestry Technician (Fire Dispatch)

This position serves as a Fire Logistics Dispatcher located in an interagency dispatch center. Duties may include but are not limited to:
Receive fire reports, determines location, land status, and current fire information, and dispatches personnel, equipment, aircraft, and/or supplies according to predefined plans. Serves as dispatcher, receiving, filling, and tracking resource requests. Collects, submits, and processes fire reports. Processes, interprets, and broadcasts weather information. Maintains data in multiple fire-related computer applications. Monitors radio and telephone communication, records and maintains communication logs. Gathers intelligence for briefings and incident statistics for fire personnel and inputs data into automated system. Physical Demands and Work Environment - The work involves long hours of sitting, intense concentration, and work at peak proficiency/intensity levels with irregular breaks and mealtime. The duties of this position create a highly stressful environment during peak activity, requiring the ability to keep calm in emergency situations. Must be able to cope with the pressure of meeting time frames and changing priorities. Mental concentration and accuracy are requited. Work Environment:
Work is performed in an office setting. During peak activity, increased radio traffic, numerous ringing phones, and conversations result in high noise levels, which require a high level of concentration to perform duties. This position has been identified as one of the key fire management positions under the Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) Standard. This position has been categorized as an Initial Attack Dispatcher, and requires selectee to meet the minimum qualification standards for IFPM prior to being placed into the position. //www.ifpm.nifc.gov/. This position requires special qualifications that have been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as a screen out element. Those who do not provide evidence they possess the following selective factors will be rated not qualified:
Have a minimum of 90 days of wild land firefighting experience. The Department of the Interior defines wild land firefighting experience as any non-structure fire that occurs in the wild land. Wild land firefighting experience is gained through work on the fire line in containment, control, suppression or use of wild land fire. This experience can be met by serving in a temporary, seasonal, or equivalent private sector fire position for no less than 90 days. Wild land fires are categorized into two distinct types:
(1) Wildfires - unplanned ignitions or prescribed fires that are declared wildfires; and (2) Prescribed Fires - planned ignitions. This description includes only fire line experience on a Prescribed Fire; it does not include experience in the planning stages. Prescribed fire experience must be supplemented by fire suppression experience in order to be creditable as previous wild land firefighting experience. Specialized
Experience:
GS-04 - To qualify for the GS-04 you must possess at least 6 months of general experience and 6 months of specialized experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience may include; filing and retrieving documents in a dispatching office, assisting in preparing various maps, plans, guides, and special reports for dispatch use, or receiving and processing requests for equipment, personnel, and supplies. OR Successful completion of two years of education above the high school level that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses outlined below. OR A combination of specialized experience and education. GS-05 - To qualify for the GS-05 you must posses at least 1 year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience may include; performing dispatching duties for wild land fire, fire departments, police, or other emergency services, processing requests for resources, consolidating and inputting data using computer programs, and recording and maintaining communication logs. OR Successful completion of a four year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with major study in forestry, range management, agriculture, or a subject-matter field directly related to the position, or that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses outlined below. OR A combination of specialized experience and education. Creditable Coursework:
Includes any courses in forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management, watershed management, soil science, natural resources (except marine fisheries and oceanography), outdoor recreation management, civil or forest engineering, or wild land fire science. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
