San Bernardino, CA San Bernardino, CA Full-time Full-time $41,746 - $55,952 a year $41,746 - $55,952 a year 1 hour ago 1 hour ago 1 hour ago The Job The Scientific Investigations Division of the Sheriff's Department is recruiting for Fingerprint Examiners I who retrieve, classify, and maintain fingerprint records and perform fingerprint analysis according to varied and complex fingerprint characteristics; performs related duties as required.
Fingerprint Examiners I work under supervision in a training environment while developing the experience required to perform at the full qualified journey-level and promote to the Fingerprint Examiner II class within 24 months.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT 1) Background:
Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass an extensive background investigation, including a polygraph examination.
Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony.
2) Shift:
The jail facilities operate 24/7, and require maintenance any time of the day or night; therefore, the ideal candidate is available to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call.
3) Travel:
Travel throughout the County is required.
Employees may be provided a County car to use in performance of duties.
At time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation.
4) Promotion:
Fingerprint Examiner I are eligible for promotion to Fingerprint Examiner II upon meeting the minimum requirements and receiving a satisfactory work progress report.
Employees must qualify for promotion within 24 months or be terminated.
Upon promotion to Fingerprint Examiner II, incumbents will serve a six (6) month probationary period.
Minimum Requirements Applicants must meet one of the following options:
Option A:
Experience:
Six (6) months of full-time experience with a law enforcement organization as a specialist in fingerprint collection, classification, and/or identification; experience must include use of computer programs.
Experience must be clearly described in the work experience section of the application.
Option B:
Certification:
Forty (40) hours of instruction in fingerprinting, resulting in a certificate(s) issued by a recognized institution (e.
g.
, Dept.
of Justice, CA Criminalistics Institute, etc.
).
A copy of the certificate(s) must be submitted with the application.
Option C:
Education:
Nine (9) semester (12 quarter) units of completed college coursework in Forensic Science, Police Science or a closely related field that must include at least one course in fingerprinting.
Note:
Criminal Justice courses are not acceptable.
A list of coursework must be submitted with the application.
Selection Process Examination:
Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to take the online written assessment.
